A star? A Greek God? A lexical amalgam with the kid’s names? A spoonerism?
Baptizing a boat is not an easy job!
Whatever the name you will choose for your ORC, keep in mind the right rules below:
- It is not necessary a unique name. As shown below, many boats have the same name. Only vessels of more than 24m need to have a singular name.
- It must be written on the stern of your boat, with your home port.
- It should be easy to state, repeat or spell on the VHF : whether you are approaching a marina or call the rescue, you’ll be happy to be understood!
Here is the list of the top ten most frequent boat names in France last year:
1. | Carpe Diem |
2. | Albatros |
3. | Sirius |
4. | Moana |
5. | Eole |
6. | Ulysse |
7. | Idefix |
8. | Orion |
9. | Neptune |
10. | Nemo |
Of course, this list varies from a country to another, and it sometimes culture-dependant.
